Woman charged after alleged stabbing of former mother-in-law

Father and son hospitalized after stabbing incident in Orange Walk

By Belize Live News Staff: A Belize City call center employee, Vanessa Good, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses following an alleged stabbing of her former mother-in-law. The 32-year-old mother of two appeared in magistrates court on Wednesday to face three criminal charges, including use of deadly means of harm, grievous harm, and burglary with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The victim, 57-year-old Sharlene Cane Alvarez, remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Good claims that she went to Alvarez’s home to collect her children when a confrontation ensued. She alleges that Alvarez approached her with a shiny object, which prompted her to defend herself. The prosecution objected to bail, citing concerns about the severity of the charges. However, the chief magistrate granted bail under the condition that Good undergoes a psychiatric evaluation. Bail was set at $3,000, and Good was also ordered to avoid contact with Alvarez and other family members.

In addition to the criminal charges, Good lost custody of her children, who have since been placed in the care of Human Services.
