Man arrested for attempted murder after setting partner ablaze

By Belize Live News Staff: A 30-year-old woman from Independence Village in southern Belize is receiving treatment for severe second-degree burns after her common-law husband allegedly set her on fire. The victim, identified as Karima Logan, told authorities that an argument with her partner, Travis Lopez, escalated into violence late on Thursday night.

Logan recounted that Lopez led her outside during the dispute, where he poured gasoline on her before igniting it. Despite claiming the incident was accidental, Lopez reportedly attempted to put out the flames by taking Logan into the shower. Authorities described the burns as affecting her neck, hands, and upper body.

Logan was rushed to Southern Regional Hospital, where she is currently being treated. Meanwhile, 24-year-old Lopez has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with the attack.
