By Belize Live News Staff: Get ready for a day of sunshine interspersed with cloudy spells and the chance of some refreshing showers, Belize! The National Meteorological Service is reporting that moist and unstable conditions are hanging over the country, setting the stage for isolated showers and thunderstorms to develop inland this afternoon. As the day progresses, these showers are anticipated to drift towards the coast and offshore areas tonight.
But don’t let the rain dampen your spirits! Temperatures are expected to be warm and pleasant, peaking at 90°F (32°C) inland and a comfortable 86°F (30°C) along the coast. Those in the hills will enjoy slightly cooler conditions with a high of 78°F (26°C).
While Hurricane Kirk swirls far out in the Atlantic, posing no direct threat to Belize, the NMS is keeping a close eye on two other weather systems brewing closer to home. One system, located south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, has a high probability of developing into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, a second area of disturbed weather over the southwestern Caribbean Sea is also showing signs of potential development. This system could become a tropical depression over the weekend, potentially bringing increased rainfall and the risk of flooding to Belize. The NMS is urging everyone to stay informed and be prepared.
For those planning to be out on the water, seas will be light chop with waves of 2-4 feet, and winds will be east-southeast at 5-15 knots.
Looking ahead to Thursday, expect cloudier skies with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms, especially over inland and northern areas. These showers are likely to become more widespread on Thursday night.
