By Belize Live News Staff: Police are currently investigating the fraudulent acquisition of birth certificates by two individuals born in the US. According to Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police, the documents were not issued by the country’s Vital Statistics Unit, raising concerns about internal misconduct.
The Major Crimes Unit is collaborating with the Ministry of Immigration to gather evidence, while the Vital Statistics Unit is reviewing its internal operations. It is suspected that these fraudulent documents were used to obtain passports.
If the suspects are found to be outside Belize, police have indicated they will alert Interpol to assist in tracking them down. Meanwhile, authorities have stated that any fraudulent passports issued will be revoked as the investigation progresses.
