By Belize Live News Staff: Shaun Christopher Gill, the sprinter who represented Belize at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, has reported being allegedly assaulted in an incident involving a firearm. The 31-year-old Belizean student filed a report at the Precinct 1 Crimes Investigation Branch, alleging that on the night of September 26, 2024, he was attacked while out on a date with a female police officer, Tyra Smith.
Gill recounted that the assault occurred around 10:40 PM on Orange Street when Smith’s ex-boyfriend, a police officer driving a black Dodge Charger, intercepted their vehicle. After blocking their path, the officer exited his vehicle, drew a gun, and struck Gill on the left side of his face with the weapon.
Following Gill’s report, police arrested and charged 29-year-old Luwis Oscar Pascascio, a police officer from Belize City, for Aggravated Assault with a Firearm. His identity was confirmed using his social security card.
Authorities have issued medico-legal forms for Gill, and his statement has been recorded. Surveillance footage from the area is yet to be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
Gill, a notable figure in Belize for his Olympic representation, has not yet spoken publicly about the incident. The investigation is ongoing as police continue to gather evidence.
