By Belize Live News Staff: Nearly three years after the fatal shooting of Winston “Tanga” James, a prominent figure in Belize’s gang circles, authorities have announced a breakthrough in the case, arresting a suspect believed to be responsible for the crime.
James, well-known in the city’s gang scene, was gunned down in January 2022 in what was widely believed to be a targeted execution by a rival gang. His girlfriend, Marybeth Wade, narrowly escaped the deadly attack.
Now, after nearly three years of investigation, police have charged 20-year-old Azzane Domingo with James’ murder. At the time of the killing, Domingo would have been just 17 years old.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero confirmed the arrest, stating, “There was not enough evidence at the time, but now new evidence has surfaced, leading to the arrest.”
Domingo, already incarcerated on unrelated charges, now faces multiple counts, including murder, attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and wounding, all related to the attack that left James dead and Wade injured.
Authorities are hopeful that the new evidence will ensure justice for James’ family.
