By Belize Live News Staff: The United Democratic Party (UDP) on Monday accused the Alliance for Democracy Party (ADP) of engaging in a “campaign of lies” aimed at misleading the public about the UDP’s activities.
In a statement, the UDP denied claims circulating in the media and on other platforms that it would be holding a National Convention on October 20, 2024. The UDP clarified that, per its constitution and a decision made at its August 2023 National Convention, the next UDP National Convention is not scheduled until after the next general elections.
“The United Democratic Party is not conducting a National Convention on October 20, 2024,” the UDP said, adding that the party’s constitution does not include any provisions for a “National Convention Secretariat” or “Protem Secretariat.”
The party urged its delegates, members, supporters, and the general public to ignore what it described as “false advertisements” being circulated by the ADP.
The UDP called on the ADP to “cease and desist” from promoting what it called a fraudulent political event, falsely attributed to the UDP, scheduled for October 20.
The UDP’s statement is the latest in a series of political exchanges ahead of Belize’s general elections, which are expected next year.
