By Belize Live News Staff: The Financial Services Commission of Belize (FSC) will participate for the first time in the International Organization of Securities Commissions’ (IOSCO) 8th Annual World Investor Week (WIW), the regulatory body announced on Monday.
The global event, scheduled to run from October 7 to October 12, 2024, will see over 100 jurisdictions promoting investor education and protection. Key topics this year include technology and digital finance, crypto assets, and sustainable finance. Discussions will also cover fraud and scam prevention, investor resilience, and the basics of investing.
FSC Director General Claude Haylock said the Commission’s participation comes on the heels of Belize becoming an associate member of IOSCO earlier this year. “This reinforces our commitment to fostering a financial environment that prioritizes investor education and protection. As AI, virtual assets, and other transformative technologies reshape the market, it’s vital that we equip investors with the knowledge they need to navigate these changes,” Haylock said.
The FSC is encouraging both experienced and novice investors to engage in the events and take advantage of the resources provided during the week.
