By Belize Live News Staff: As Belize marks its 43rd Independence Day, the nation is balancing its celebrations with a watchful eye on the skies. The National Meteorological Service (NMS) has forecast scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms throughout the day, with a particular focus on southern regions of the country.
In its morning bulletin, the NMS predicted cloudy conditions with intermittent showers and the possibility of thunderstorms, adding a layer of uncertainty to the festive mood. Despite the weather, the atmosphere remains lively as Belizeans prepare for parades, concerts, and other traditional Independence Day activities.
Marine conditions, according to the NMS, are expected to stay relatively calm, with easterly winds blowing at 5-10 knots. The sea state will remain slight, allowing for safe conditions on the water. Temperatures inland are set to peak at a hot 94°F (34°C), while coastal areas offer a cooler respite with temperatures in the mid-80s Fahrenheit (around 30°C).
However, the NMS is closely monitoring a broad area of low pressure developing over the northwestern Caribbean Sea. Though tropical cyclone formation is not expected in the next 48 hours, there is potential for the system to develop into a tropical depression by next week, adding an element of unpredictability to the weekend. Forecasters will be keeping a close eye on its progress and will update the public accordingly.
Looking ahead, the NMS has indicated that scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue into Sunday, with an uptick in activity expected by Sunday night.
While the weather may affect some outdoor plans, Belizeans remain resilient. The spirit of Independence is alive and well, with celebrations continuing despite the occasional downpour. Both residents and visitors are encouraged to stay informed about the latest weather updates and take precautions as needed.
