By Belize Live News Staff: Dr. Moses Shyne Barrow, the Leader of the Opposition, called out the Briceno administration for the declining state of the healthcare system in Belize. During his State of the Nation address, Barrow claimed that Belize’s public hospitals are “dilapidated” and “under-equipped.”
Barrow condemned the government for its decision to spend BZ$6.9 million on a land acquisition deal rather than investing in much-needed healthcare infrastructure. He highlighted the chronic shortages of medical supplies, staff, and equipment at public hospitals, such as the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH).
“The people of Belize deserve better. This administration has prioritized land deals over the health of the nation, and it is Belizeans who are paying the price,” Barrow declared. He also called for greater transparency and accountability in the National Health Insurance (NHI) program, which he described as a “privatized hustle.”
Barrow promised that a future UDP government would prioritize healthcare and put an end to the mismanagement of the system.
