Gunshots fired near former President Trump at golf club, suspect in custody

By Belize Live News Staff: WEST PALM BEACH, Florida – The Trump campaign confirmed Sunday that former President Donald Trump is safe after gunshots were fired near him while he was playing golf at Trump International Golf Club. “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time,” said campaign spokesman Steven Cheung in a brief statement.

A person has been detained in connection with the incident, according to law enforcement sources. Multiple reports indicate that the Secret Service fired at the suspect, who officials believe was armed and intended to target Trump. A long gun has been recovered at the scene.

The incident took place shortly before 2 p.m., and the golf course was immediately locked down, according to sources familiar with the situation. The Secret Service has confirmed that it is working with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the “protective incident” involving the former president.

Both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been briefed on the security breach and expressed relief that Trump was unharmed. “I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America,” Harris wrote on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Biden and Harris, who were both in Washington, DC, at the time of the incident, will continue to receive updates from their security teams as the investigation unfolds. Further details about the suspect and the motive behind the incident have not yet been released.
