By Belize Live News Staff: The Ministry of Human Development, Families, and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, in collaboration with the National Commission for Families and Children (NCFC), has strongly condemned an inappropriate public display involving a woman and a child during the Carnival Road March on September 7, 2024. The incident, which included lewd behavior, has raised concerns regarding the safety and well-being of minors and the general public.
In a joint statement released on September 9, the Ministry and NCFC expressed their disapproval of the actions, noting that the child involved was exposed to undue scrutiny and potential harm. They emphasized that such actions are unacceptable in public spaces and called on organizers, participants, and parents to uphold ethical practices when involving children in public events.
The Ministry and NCFC announced that they are seeking legal advice on how to proceed with the matter and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting children from exploitation. They also pledged to continue advocating for safe and respectful environments for all children, especially during national celebrations like the Carnival.
The statement concluded by urging the public to respect the rights of children and emphasized their dedication to championing the welfare and development of Belizean families and children.
