By Belize Live News Staff: Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has announced that charges will be brought against a group involved in a street fight between two women, as well as those who stood by and encouraged the violence.
The incident, caught on camera, has sparked outrage and concern over the increasing lawlessness in Belizean society.
Williams expressed his dismay at the lack of empathy displayed by the bystanders who chose to film and encourage the fight instead of intervening.
“It’s sad to see how lawless some in our society have become,” Williams wrote on social media. “When the women are fighting, the men stand there watching, videoing, and encouraging them to keep fighting until it reaches the stage where the girl could have been killed.”
The Commissioner stressed the importance of sending a strong message to deter such behavior in the future.
“Those involved in the fight will be charged, and those standing guard videoing and encouraging will be charged for incitement,” he stated.
The police’s decision to charge not only the participants but also the instigators signals a firm stance against such behavior and a commitment to fostering a more peaceful society.
