NTUCB escalates fight against $6.9 million land purchase

By Belize Live News Staff: The National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) is intensifying its efforts to overturn the government’s controversial $6.9 million purchase of hospital land.

In a recent move, the NTUCB has formally requested Contractor General Maria Arthurs to conduct an “immediate and thorough investigation” into the procurement process surrounding the land acquisition. They have set a firm deadline, “demanding that her findings be published within two weeks of receiving this letter, and earlier if possible.”

In addition to seeking the Contractor General’s intervention, the union has also secured the services of attorney Darrell Bradley to prepare a legal challenge against the purchase.

It remains to be seen how the government will respond to these mounting challenges and whether the Contractor General’s investigation will shed light on the contentious land purchase.
