A man is behind bars after a violent knife attack at Shisha Bar on Newtown Barracks left three people injured.

By Belize Live News Staff: A man is behind bars after a violent knife attack at Shisha Bar on Newtown Barracks left three people injured. Police say Gilbert Lightburn managed to sneak a knife past security and into the establishment on Saturday night.

Lightburn is now facing three counts of attempted murder and use of deadly means of harm. The victims, Ian Abraham, Javon Abraham, and a third individual, were reportedly drinking when an altercation with Lightburn escalated. Police say Lightburn pulled out the knife, and the fight spilled out onto the street.

Despite three police officers being assigned to the nightclub, in addition to Shisha’s own security personnel, Lightburn was able to enter with the weapon. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero acknowledged the security lapse and said officers will be instructed to be more vigilant in the future.

While Lightburn may have evaded security, he couldn’t escape the law. He has been arrested and charged for his alleged involvement in the stabbings.
