By Belize Live News Staff: A cargo container is adrift in the waters near the Port of Belize after the towhead transporting it plunged off the bridge this morning. The incident was captured on video, showing the impact breaking the guardrails as the towhead fell into the sea.
The accident happened just past the designated passing area, where vehicles typically give way to traffic coming from the pier head. The container was reportedly en route to a business in Belmopan.
Thankfully, the driver was rescued and is unharmed. However, the contents of the container are now scattered in the water near the pier head.
Officials are at the scene investigating the cause of the accident and evaluating the situation.
