By Belize Live News Staff: A mother and her two young children were terrorized during a home invasion in Santa Elena Town on Saturday night, according to police.
Two armed men stormed the residence in the Santa Cruz area around 7:30 p.m., demanding money and valuables, the woman told police.
The assailants, both wearing helmets and brandishing firearms, forced their way into the home while the woman was with her two children, ages 5 and 11.
The men made off with two gold chains, cash, and the woman’s cell phone. Before fleeing, one of the men tied the woman’s hands behind her back and struck her in the face with the butt of his gun, warning her not to move.
Police were alerted to the incident and arrived on the scene shortly after. A Scene of Crime technician processed the area for evidence. The woman was issued a medical form for attention.
As of Sunday, no suspects had been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
