By Belize Live News Staff: The fourth round of migration talks between Belize and the Republic of Cuba concluded today in Belize City. Both delegations engaged in a comprehensive discussion regarding migration flows and trends between the two nations.
The discussions highlighted the mutual challenges faced by both countries concerning regular and irregular migration flows, particularly the increasing use of fraudulent documentation and the movement of third-country nationals through Belize and Cuba. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating to protect and respect the rights of migrants.
Belize and Cuba recognized the persistent irregular migration trends across the Central American region and reiterated their dedication to joint efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of migrants. They also pledged to exchange information and strengthen cooperation in implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2023. This ongoing collaboration aims to facilitate safer migration between the two countries and contribute to improved regional migration management.
Cuba has agreed to host the next round of migration talks in 2026.
