Mahmoud Dani Lagha sworn in as new Belize Rural South Standard Bearer for UDP

By Belize Live News Staff: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has officially sworn in Mahmoud Dani Lagha as the new Standard Bearer for Belize Rural South. Lagha’s appointment follows the recent withdrawal of Ramon Vasquez, who stepped down to preserve the neutrality and independence of the Belize Broadcasting Network, where he serves as Chairman and CEO.

Vasquez, in a public statement, expressed that his decision to withdraw from political life was driven by the need to ensure that the television station he leads remains impartial and unaligned with any political entity. His departure has opened the door for Lagha, who now becomes the fourth individual to present himself as a candidate for the UDP in this crucial constituency.

Lagha’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the UDP as they continue to finalize their slate of candidates in preparation for the 2025 General Elections. With Belize Rural South being a key battleground, the selection of Lagha signals the party’s strategic move to strengthen its position and appeal to the electorate in this region.

The UDP remains focused on gearing up its candidates and solidifying its campaign strategies as the 2025 elections draw closer, aiming to secure a decisive victory across the country.
