By Belize Live News Staff: Belize today launched a new Coast Guard drone squadron equipped with advanced technology, marking a significant step in enhancing its maritime surveillance and enforcement capabilities.
The squadron, equipped with two Perimeter 8+ Long Range System UAVs, will bolster the Coast Guard’s ability to monitor and protect Belize’s vast marine resources, in line with the nation’s commitment to the Blue Bond Program.
The drones, capable of flying up to five hours with a range of 110 miles, offer thermal observation and long-range visible imagery, enabling effective surveillance even at night.
Prime Minister John Briceño hailed the launch as “a monumental step forward” in safeguarding the nation’s marine resources.
The investment of BZ$525,450.00 for the squadron underscores Belize’s commitment to preserving its natural resources and securing a sustainable future.
