New Chapter, Same Great Taste: Sunny Side Bakery opens at new location Sept 2nd

By Belize Live News Staff: It’s a bittersweet moment for Belize City as the iconic Sunny Side Bakery, affectionately known as “Sunny an Tan”, gets ready to move to a brand new home. But don’t worry, folks – this isn’t goodbye, it’s just a new beginning for a beloved Belizean institution.

For 60 years, Sunny Side has been more than just a bakery. It’s been a community gathering spot, a place where memories were made, and a testament to the hard work and big heart of its founder, the late Zebedee Augustus “Sonny” Pitterson. Mr. Pitterson, a true Belizean success story, built Sunny Side from the ground up, running it for 40 years and showing us all what can be achieved with determination and a dream.

His legacy of good food and even better values was carried on by his son, Elon Erlin Pitterson, who kept the ovens warm and the customers smiling for another 20 years. Just like his dad, Elon was known for his talent, his kindness, and his belief in treating everyone right.

Now, it’s Elon’s daughters who are stepping up to keep the Sunny Side spirit alive. They’ve made the brave decision to move the bakery to a new location, a bittersweet moment that’s filled with both nostalgia and excitement for the future.

“Sunny Side is more than just flour and sugar,” one of Elon’s daughters shared with us. “It’s about family, it’s about community, and it’s about keeping the legacy of our dad and granddad going strong. We can’t wait to welcome everyone to our new spot.”

Mark your calendars, Belize! The new Sunny Side Bakery will be opening its doors on September 2nd, 2024, at #29 Central American Boulevard. As the baton is passed to a new generation, we’re all sending our best wishes for their success.
