University union criticizes land purchase and hospital plans

By Belize Live News Staff: In a recent press release, the University of Belize Faculty and Staff Union (UBFSU) voiced strong concerns over the University’s plans for a tertiary-level hospital and land purchase. The Union expressed disappointment with the developments, claiming they undermine good governance and raise questions about transparency and accountability in handling public funds.

The UBFSU believes the University’s current land is suitable for the hospital and would meet all environmental assessments. They also advocate for greater involvement of the University’s medical personnel in all stages of the hospital’s development. The Union urges the Board to call on the Government to reconsider its decision and build the hospital on the existing University campus.
