Marijuana bust leads to $5,000 fine, possible jail time

By Belize Live News Staff: A Belize City man, Timothy Elijio, was fined $5,000 on Friday after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges. Elijio appeared without legal representation in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, facing a single count of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply. This charge stemmed from the discovery of 112 grams of marijuana during a police search at his residence on Wednesday, August 21st.

In court, Elijio entered a guilty plea and was subsequently fined the mandatory minimum of $5,000 for the offense. He has been given until December 31st to pay the fine, failing which he will face a year in prison.
