PM Briceno steps in to resolve protected areas dispute

By Belize Live News Staff: Prime Minister Briceno has intervened to address concerns raised by the Association of Protected Areas Management Organizations (APAMO) after their attempts to communicate with the Minister of Sustainable Development were unsuccessful.

APAMO’s public campaign highlighting their concerns prompted the Prime Minister’s involvement. He met with APAMO’s executive members on Monday, leading to a joint agreement to form a working group consisting of both government and conservation NGO representatives.

The working group will focus on revising the National Protected Areas Systems Act and the Protected Areas Conservation Trust Act. The Prime Minister has also reiterated his dedication to improving the relationship between the government and the conservation community.

The newly established working group has a three-month timeframe to accomplish its objectives.
