By Belize Live News Staff: A gruesome discovery was made Thursday morning in the southern Belizean town of Punta Gorda. The lifeless body of 44-year-old Jennison Vernon was found near a pier on Front Street, bearing multiple chop wounds.
Police responded to the scene shortly before midday after receiving information about the body. Vernon was discovered face down next to the seawall by members of the fisherman’s cooperative. Preliminary investigations suggest he was brutally attacked with a machete, suffering at least seven chop wounds from his upper shoulder to the middle of his head.
Vernon had recently been released from the Belize Central Prison and was reportedly homeless. Authorities are currently working to establish a motive for the killing and identify any potential suspects. It is understood that the victim had no known relatives in the Punta Gorda area.
Police are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist in their investigation.
