By Belize Live New Staff: A grim discovery was made in Punta Gorda on Thursday morning when the lifeless body of a man was found floating near the seawall on Front Street.
Police responded to the scene around 11:30 am and retrieved the body from the water. The deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Jennison Vernon, a local resident who, according to townspeople, was mentally ill.
Several cut wounds were observed on Vernon’s body, prompting police to treat the case as a homicide investigation. They are currently seeking a person of interest in connection with the suspected murder. No arrests have been made at this time.
