Delayed swearing-in: Dr. Martinez yet to assume Toledo East role

By Belize Live News Staff: Dr. Osmond Martinez, the landslide victor of the Toledo East by-election held on July 17th, is still awaiting his official induction as the area’s representative, nearly a month after securing a commanding 70% of the vote.

Despite the decisive win, Dr. Martinez’s swearing-in ceremony remains unscheduled, and he has not yet been assigned a ministerial portfolio. Prime Minister John Briceño addressed the delay on Thursday, stating that Dr. Martinez is currently on a “much-needed family holiday” and is expected to return on Monday. The PM plans to meet with Dr. Martinez that same day to finalize arrangements for the swearing-in and formal induction.

The anticipation builds as Toledo East awaits the official start of Dr. Martinez’s tenure, and the nation watches to see which portfolio he will be assigned in the government.
