By Belize Live News Staff: San Ignacio/Santa Elena Mayor Earl Trapp has reversed his stance on the expulsion of Patrick Faber from the United Democratic Party (UDP), a move initially prompted by a leaked letter addressed to UDP Chairman Michael Peyrefitte.
The controversial letter, which surfaced publicly, saw Trapp expressing frustration over Faber’s actions. “It is disheartening to see Party members such as Patrick Faber repeatedly engage in destructive behavior that erodes public trust in the UDP and undermines our chances to win the next General Elections…Patrick Faber must be expelled…in order for the UDP to rid itself of the internal elements with ulterior motives and to finish destroying our great party that are already in shambles…We must send a clear message to all Party Officials that destructive behavior will not be tolerated,” Trapp wrote.
Following the publication of the letter, Trapp faced backlash from UDP supporters, urging him to reconsider his position. In response to the outcry, Trapp acknowledged the concerns of his constituents. “I am here as a servant of the people, and I am guided by their concerns,” Trapp stated.
Trapp now asserts that expelling Faber could inflict more harm than good on the party. “I sincerely hope that the party accepts this retraction and does not proceed with this matter. Thank you for your understanding,” he concluded.
