Cayo Tour Guide Association celebrates 100 years of Xunantunich excavations with educational lectures

By Belize Live News Staff: The Cayo Tour Guide Association (CTGA), in collaboration with renowned archaeologist Dr. Jamie Awe and other local tour guide associations, recently commemorated a century of archaeological excavations at the ancient Maya site of Xunantunich.

On Wednesday, a series of lectures were held to delve into the rich history of archaeological work at the site. Esteemed experts including Dr. Jamie Awe, Dr. Kathryn Brown, Mr. Christophe Helmke, and Mr. Douglas Tilden shared their knowledge and insights with an audience of tour guides.

The event provided a unique opportunity for tour guides to deepen their understanding of Xunantunich’s archaeological significance and enhance their ability to interpret the site for visitors.

The CTGA expressed gratitude to all the presenters for their dedication and contributions to the field of archaeology in Belize. Their presentations not only celebrated the past century of excavations at Xunantunich but also paved the way for a more informed and engaging visitor experience at this iconic Maya site.
