By Belize Live News Staff: Belize’s cycling community is mourning the loss of Mateo Cruz, a former top elite cyclist and respected physical fitness trainer, who passed away on Monday at 6:15 pm.
Cruz had been battling cirrhosis of the liver, a condition that progressed to kidney failure. He was initially admitted to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) but was later transferred to Belize Healthcare Partners when further treatment options at KHMH were exhausted.
Known for his athletic prowess and dedication to fitness, Cruz was a well-known figure in Belize’s cycling community. His passion for the sport and expertise in physical training inspired many aspiring athletes.
