Alcohol and overtaking attempt led to fatal Toledo accident, Police say

By Belize Live News Staff: Tragedy struck Aguacate, Toledo District, on Friday night when a head-on collision claimed the lives of three family members. Police revealed today that alcohol and a risky overtaking maneuver were key factors in the devastating crash.

Jose Tush, 51, the driver of a Toyota pickup, was confirmed to have been drinking prior to the accident. He was attempting to overtake a motorcycle on the highway when he collided head-on with a Ford F350 driven by Emilio Lizama, 43. The impact resulted in the immediate death of Jose Tush, while his daughter Renieta, 17, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Five-year-old Michael later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Others involved in the accident are still receiving medical treatment. Police investigations are ongoing as authorities work to piece together the full sequence of events leading up to the tragic incident.
