By Belize Live News Staff: Doris Grant, 50, the central figure in an ongoing police investigation into a massive land fraud scheme, now faces additional charges of gang affiliation. Grant, along with her common-law husband, 31-year-old Austin Underwood, were formally charged on Thursday with being members of the notorious Southside Gangsters.
This latest development comes on the heels of a tumultuous month for Grant, who was charged with 40 counts of land fraud just weeks ago. Additionally, Grant and Underwood were injured in a shooting incident on Sunday morning after leaving a concert. While neither suffered serious injuries, the incident prompted a police investigation.
Following the shooting, Grant and Underwood were detained on Tuesday night, shortly after the murder of Jaheim Fitzgibbon. On Thursday, the couple appeared before Magistrate’s Court #1, where they pleaded not guilty to the gang affiliation charges. However, bail was not granted, and the pair was remanded to prison, with instructions to seek bail through the High Court.
As she was escorted to the prison bus, Grant offered a brief statement: “See how they chance people? Police.” The statement, cryptic in nature, may allude to her ongoing legal battles and the recent charges levied against her.
Attorney Rowell Gonzalez represented both Grant and Underwood in court. The case has attracted significant public attention due to Grant’s alleged involvement in a widespread land fraud scheme that has impacted numerous individuals.
The police investigation into both matters continues, and further developments are expected in the coming weeks.
