Cut-off date for voter registration in Toledo East by-election announced

By Belize Live New Staff: The Elections and Boundaries Department announced on Tuesday that the cut-off date for registration as electors for the upcoming By-election in the Toledo East Electoral Division was Monday, June 10, 2024.

Her Excellency, the Governor-General, has issued a Writ of Election, setting the nomination day for candidates on July 2, 2024, and the polling day on July 17, 2024.

The Representation of the People Act stipulates that only those persons whose names appear on the electoral register for the division as of Nomination Day are entitled to vote in the election of a divisional representative.

The department emphasized that the June 10 cut-off was crucial to allow election officers adequate time to verify all applications, publish supplementary lists, and hold revision courts as mandated by law. Individuals who applied for voter registration after the cut-off date will not be eligible to vote in the upcoming By-election.

The department urged eligible voters to participate in the electoral process, emphasizing the importance of each vote with the slogan, “Let Your Decision be Your Choice. Exercise It!”

For further information, residents are encouraged to contact the Elections and Boundaries Department.
