By Belize Live News Staff: A Belizean mother found herself on the wrong side of the law after her teenage son’s alleged armed robbery spree. The case, which unfolded in a Belize City courtroom Thursday, exposed a web of crime that ensnared not only the accused teen, but also his mother and friend.
Christian Denver Ramos, 18, stands accused of robbing a 19-year-old at gunpoint, making off with over $2,900 in valuables and cash. He’s been remanded to prison until his August court date.
But the legal troubles didn’t stop with Ramos. His mother, Genevieve Jennifer Coleman, a 42-year-old housekeeper, admitted to pawning jewelry that police later linked to another victim. Coleman claimed she didn’t know the items were stolen, insisting her son told her he had found them.
Ramos’ friend, 19-year-old Elsworth Mikal Talbert, also pleaded guilty to pawning stolen goods at Ramos’ behest. Both Coleman and Talbert were fined $1,000, a penalty that could be swapped for a year in jail if they fail to pay.
The stolen jewelry was originally reported missing by Kimberly Brown, a local businesswoman whose car was burglarized in May. The intricate connections between these crimes highlight how one criminal act can ripple outwards, leaving a trail of victims in its wake.
While Ramos faces a possible prison sentence, the court showed leniency towards his mother and friend, opting for fines over jail time.
