Prime Minister condemns bullying, vows action against lawlessness

By Belize Live News Staff: Prime Minister John Briceno has strongly condemned a recent bullying incident that surfaced online, emphasizing that such behavior will not be tolerated in Belize. The Prime Minister, who was made aware of the video on Friday, has instructed the police department to thoroughly investigate the matter.

Speaking to CTV3, Briceno expressed his disapproval of the actions displayed by both the bully and his family, stating, “This kind of behavior is unacceptable and needs to stop. I’m asking the police to do everything possible to deal with these people and get them off the streets.”

He further reiterated Belize’s reputation as a peaceful nation, saying, “Belize is known as a peaceful country, a peaceful society. Belizeans, we are friendly, we are helpful, we help one another and we will not tolerate anyone to be bullying and to threaten any citizen in this country.”

When questioned about the perceived lawlessness in the situation, even after police involvement, the Prime Minister acknowledged that such behavior has been tolerated for too long. He stated, “We cannot allow these people to behave lawless in this country.”

Briceno’s firm stance against bullying and lawlessness comes after a cabinet discussion on Tuesday where similar concerns were raised. The government has vowed to take action to address these issues and ensure the safety and security of all Belizean citizens.
