21 Belizeans deported from the U.S. — Embassy urges self-departure to avoid forced returns

By Belize Live News Staff: A U.S. government-chartered flight carrying 21 Belizeans landed in Belize this week, completing the latest wave of deportations under the United States’ zero-tolerance immigration enforcement policies. The U.S. Embassy in Belize confirmed the operation, noting that all individuals on board were in the U.S. illegally, with many facing criminal charges.

The deportation was facilitated through collaboration between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Diplomatic Security Special Agents, and the Government of Belize. As a firm reminder, the U.S. reiterated its stance against unlawful immigration, including visa overstays and misuse.

The Embassy urged Belizeans residing illegally in the U.S. to take advantage of voluntary departure programs through the CBP Home app (www.cbp.gov). Those who self-deport may be eligible for a US$1,000 exit bonus and can avoid the legal consequences and trauma of forced removal.

In response, the Government of Belize has reaffirmed its position that all Belizean nationals are welcome home, regardless of their immigration status abroad. Officials emphasized that the focus now must shift to reintegration and opportunities for returnees to contribute to Belize’s development and economy.

This most recent deportation event has reignited conversations about migration policy, human rights, and the socioeconomic conditions driving Belizeans abroad.
