UDP rejects alliance petition, denounces “fraud and lies” from Tracy Panton faction

By Belize Live News Staff: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has forcefully rejected a petition submitted by Tracy Panton and members of the Alliance for Corruption Reform, calling the move a desperate and fraudulent attempt to confuse the public and destabilize the party ahead of the upcoming Village Council Elections.

In a strongly worded press release issued Tuesday, the UDP accused Panton and her Alliance Party of having no legal or moral standing to petition the current UDP Chairman, citing their refusal to recognize the existing executive since October 20, 2024. That date marks a disputed “convention” staged by the Alliance, which the UDP has branded as counterfeit and is now the subject of a High Court claim.

With Justice Hondora expected to deliver a ruling on the matter soon, the UDP said the Alliance’s latest action reflects growing desperation, describing it as an effort “to further confuse the public and sabotage our Party.”

The UDP reaffirmed that it is moving forward with a reform agenda under Party Leader Shyne Barrow, which includes a comprehensive revision of the party’s constitution to address past weaknesses and regain public trust. The party also announced that the National Party Council will soon convene to set dates for caretaker, delegate, and national conventions, with the goal of holding the UDP National Convention by the first week of October 2025.

The release concluded with a clear message: the UDP remains committed to rebuilding from the ground up and rejecting any interference by individuals it labels as part of a “significantly corrupt and unscrupulous few.”
