By Belize Live News Staff: Shock and sadness have gripped Gales Point Manatee following the death of Anthony Andrewin, who was fatally injured during an encounter with a loose pig.
According to initial reports, the pig escaped confinement and entered Andrewin’s yard. When he attempted to drive the animal away, it attacked, biting him on the leg and inflicting serious injuries. Andrewin was being transported to the hospital but died from excessive bleeding along the way.
Village Chairman Jason Altschaft said that free-roaming pigs have become a problem in the area, with residents struggling to contain their livestock. He called Andrewin’s death “heartbreaking,” praising him as a man known for his hard work and dedication to the village.
Officials are urging livestock owners to secure their animals more carefully to prevent further tragedies.
