By Belize Live News Staff: Tracy Taegar-Panton is poised to become the official leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP) without opposition, following a show of unity within the party ahead of its upcoming national convention.
During a gathering of UDP members, attendees signed two key documents—one outlining the party’s future direction and another serving as a pledge of support for Panton’s leadership. This strong endorsement has left Panton confident that she will not face any challengers when the convention takes place.
“We are moving forward as a united party,” Panton stated. “The commitments I received today reaffirm that we are working together to rebuild the UDP and prepare for the future.”
Her uncontested rise to leadership marks a turning point for the UDP, which has faced internal divisions in recent months. With Panton at the helm, the party is expected to focus on rebuilding public trust, strengthening its policies, and positioning itself as a formidable opposition force.
The upcoming convention will formalize Panton’s position as the first female leader of the UDP, a milestone moment in Belizean politics.
