La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge 2025 ends in Belize City with thrilling finish

By Belize Live News Staff: The 2025 La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge ended in Belize City on Monday, with “Slim and Trim Like Guava Limb” securing their third consecutive title in one of Belize’s most physically demanding endurance races. The team completed the 175-mile course from San Ignacio with a two-minute lead, solidifying their reputation as the dominant force in the competition.

Close behind, Memory Lane Global Mission took second place, while Lucas Oil Mixed finished third, rounding out a fiercely contested podium.

The four-day race, which started on Friday, faced an unexpected delay when paddlers launched prematurely from under the Hawksworth Bridge before the official 7 a.m. start. Race organizers quickly intervened, ordering a restart at 8 a.m. after all participants returned to the starting point.

Despite the early setback, the competition remained intense as paddlers navigated strong currents, shifting water levels, and grueling distances to reach Belize City. Large crowds gathered along the riverbanks to cheer on their favorite teams, with the final sprint to the finish line drawing roaring applause from spectators.

As Belize’s largest and most iconic canoe race, La Ruta Maya continues to attract top paddlers, passionate fans, and corporate sponsors. With the 2025 edition now complete, attention turns to next year’s competition and whether “Slim and Trim Like Guava Limb” can extend their winning streak to four.
