By Belize Live News Staff: A paraplegic man was fatally shot on Castle Street, Belize City, on Wednesday morning, marking another act of deadly gun violence in the area.
Police confirmed that at approximately 11:30 a.m., officers responded to a murder report in front of #21 Castle Street. Upon arrival, they found 40-year-old Gaiyon Kareem Gomez, a paraplegic Belizean, lying motionless in the middle of the street with a gunshot wound to the head. His hand was still gripping his wheelchair, and he appeared lifeless.
According to preliminary investigations, a single gunshot was heard, and shortly after, two individuals were seen fleeing the scene. No expended shell casings were recovered, police said.
The crime scene was documented, and Gomez’s body was transported to KHMH, where a doctor pronounced him dead at 12:35 p.m.
Police interviewed residents in the area but received no useful leads. However, investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from police cameras that captured critical details about the incident.
Authorities have yet to establish a motive or identify suspects in the killing. The investigation remains active, and officials are calling on the public to assist with any relevant information.
