By Belize Live News Staff: The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority (KHMHA) has received a substantial donation of medical equipment from local and international donors to enhance patient care. An official ceremony was held on February 11, 2025, at the KHMHA facility in Belize City, where the contributions were formally handed over.
A significant portion of the donation—$333,604.01 USD—came from the Providence Healthcare System in Southern California, with support from key figures such as Brandon Allen (St. Joseph, Burbank), Sharon Gross (Cedar Sinai Tarzana), and Dr. Bernie Klein (CEO, Holy Cross Mission Hills). Local donors also played a vital role, particularly in securing six GE OmniBed Giraffes for neonatal care, with contributions from companies such as Brothers Habet Ltd, Builder’s Hardware Ltd, and Century 21 Belize.
The donated equipment includes 35 Med Surge Beds, 5 ICU Beds, 6 Patient Recliners, 7 Patient Sleepers, and assorted NICU supplies, arriving at a critical time when KHMHA was identifying equipment in need of replacement. The hospital also covered $26,800 BZD in shipment costs to transport the supplies to Belize.
KHMHA CEO Chandra Cansino expressed deep appreciation for the donations, emphasizing the positive impact on healthcare services for Belizeans.
