By Belize Live News Staff: A 32-year-old Belizean fisherman, Akeem Smith, was injured in a targeted shooting on Saturday, February 15, 2025, near North Front Street, Belize City. The attack occurred around 6:00 p.m., as Smith and three others—Sheldon Barrow, Brandon Young, and a man identified as “Delly”—were returning from a fishing trip.
The group was traveling by boat through the Haulover Creek towards the Swing Bridge, passing by the San Pedro Belize Express parking lot, when two unidentified men standing near Musa and Balderamos Law Firm opened fire, discharging approximately four to five gunshots in their direction.
In response, all four men jumped into the Haulover Creek to escape, with Delly later reboarding the boat and continuing up the creek. Smith, who suffered gunshot injuries to his body, was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), where he is currently in stable condition.
Police recovered a 9mm shell casing from the scene and processed multiple locations, including the area behind City Hall on Regent Street. Authorities are actively investigating the incident, and no arrests have been made at this time.
