By Belize Live News Staff: With Prime Minister John Briceño dissolving Parliament this week, Belize has officially entered election season, with voters set to head to the polls on March 12, 2025. Many citizens have questioned how government ministers can still publicly function in their roles after Parliament has been dissolved.
Attorney General Anthony Sylvestre clarified that under Belize’s Constitution, a caretaker government remains in place until a new administration is sworn in. This ensures that critical state functions, such as national security and essential services, continue without disruption.
The caretaker government operates under strict limitations, meaning ministers cannot introduce new policies or major programs, but they retain authority to manage ongoing matters. This allows for a smooth transition of power, preventing governance gaps before the general elections.
As political parties ramp up their campaigns, the focus now shifts to voter turnout and the decisions that will shape Belize’s future after March 12.
