By Belize Live News Staff: Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has provided additional details on the fatal shooting of Brandon Baptist, suggesting that Baptist may have been armed before he was shot and thrown over the bleachers during an altercation with the PIV gang on Friday night.
According to police investigations, Baptist was not present at the stadium earlier in the evening but was called to the scene after tensions escalated between his gang, BLC, and the rival PIV gang. Upon arriving at the stadium, he reportedly went straight to the bleachers, where members of the PIV gang were positioned at the upper end.
Williams stated that during the heated confrontation, Baptist may have pulled out a firearm, at which point members of PIV opened fire on him first. Despite being shot, Baptist continued to struggle with his attackers before being thrown over the railing of the bleachers, where his body was later discovered.
In response to the violence and rising tensions, Commissioner Williams confirmed that he traveled to Belize City alongside Eastern Division’s senior command, including Mr. Romero, to implement preventive measures aimed at avoiding potential retaliation following the deadly encounter.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Baptist’s death, including confirming whether he was indeed armed at the time. Meanwhile, officials are on high alert for any possible reprisals in the wake of the incident.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for further updates.
