Police: Gang conflict ends in fatal shooting of Brandon Baptist at football game

By Belize Live News Staff: Authorities have confirmed that Brandon Baptist was fatally shot following a heated confrontation with rival gang members at a football match in Belize City on Friday night. The altercation, which took place at Marion Jones Sports Complex, quickly turned deadly as shots rang out, leaving Baptist mortally wounded.

According to Police Commissioner Chester Williams, Baptist was at home when he received a call that members of his gang were involved in a dispute with individuals from the PIV gang at the stadium. He then made his way to the venue, heading towards the upper section of the bleachers, where he confronted the group.

Reports indicate that Baptist may have drawn a firearm, which prompted PIV members to open fire on him first. A struggle ensued, during which Baptist was reportedly thrown from the bleachers after being shot.

This latest act of gang violence in a public space has raised serious security concerns, especially since it occurred in front of spectators at a football match. In response to the incident, the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) has announced the postponement of scheduled matches, citing safety concerns for players and attendees.

Investigators are working to piece together the full sequence of events, but no arrests have been made. Authorities are urging anyone with information or video footage to come forward as the investigation continues.
