Shyne Barrow calls for fresh faces in UDP, rejects “Corrupt Dinosaurs”

UDP rejects alliance petition, denounces “fraud and lies” from Tracy Panton faction

By Belize Live News Staff: As the country prepares for upcoming general elections, Leader of the Opposition Shyne Barrow is making it clear that he wants the United Democratic Party (UDP) to embrace new candidates rather than relying on what he calls “corrupt dinosaurs.”

At a press conference on Tuesday, Barrow took aim at both the government and his own party’s past, arguing that the UDP must move away from “corrupt carcasses” and rejected politicians in favor of fresh leadership.

“We prefer to proceed with new people. Everybody started somewhere—Manuel Esquivel started somewhere. Candidates have to have a first election. George Price lost his first election for the Belize City Council,” Barrow stated, urging support for political newcomers.

He emphasized that instead of maintaining the “status quo” with longtime politicians who were voted out in 2020, the UDP should introduce new leadership to regain public trust.

While no official date has been set for the general elections, Barrow’s remarks signal a strategic shift within the UDP as the party gears up for the campaign.
