By Belize Live News Staff: A police officer assigned to Government House has been dismissed after fatally shooting the Governor General’s pet dog, authorities confirmed.
The officer, who was on duty at the time, pulled his service weapon and shot the dog, an act that was later reported to the Professional Standards Branch. Following an investigation, the officer was relieved of his duties.
Commissioner of Police Chester Williams addressed the incident, noting that prior reports indicated the dog had been aggressive. However, the shooting resulted in swift disciplinary action, leading to the officer’s dismissal.
The incident has sparked public outcry, with many questioning the use of lethal force on an animal. Authorities have not disclosed whether further action will be taken.
