By Belize Live News Staff: Police are investigating an early morning shooting in the Riverside area of Belama Phase 2, Belize City, where gunfire struck a residence and a vehicle belonging to Senator Collet Montejo, Vice President of the Senate.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire and met with a retiree and landlord on Jackfruit Crescent, who shared details of the incident. According to the landlord, one of his tenants reported hearing gunshots and later found a bullet hole in the back door of her home and another in her refrigerator.

Senator Montejo, who resides in the area, stated that he also heard gunfire. Upon inspecting his Chevy Colorado pickup truck, he discovered two bullet holes—one in the tailgate and another on the left side of the vehicle.

Police recovered eight expended shell casings from the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Investigators are working to determine the motive behind the shooting and whether the senator’s vehicle was intentionally targeted. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.
