By Belize Live News Staff: Police Commissioner Chester Williams has commented on the year’s first murder, involving fisherman Godfrey Hyde, who was killed on Turneffe Island. While the investigation is ongoing, the commissioner suggested that the murder may have drug-related implications.
According to Commissioner Williams, “From all indications…we’re getting that it may be drug-related.” He noted that information suggests the victim may have encountered drugs or that others believed he had access to them, possibly prompting the fatal confrontation. Williams emphasized that the incident remains under investigation, with officers and the Coast Guard conducting searches in the area.
Authorities anticipate the involvement of additional individuals and are working to prevent further violence along Belize’s coastal areas.
